You feel some extra pulse of awareness coming to you right from, “Hey, how are you?” with Mark Klinger. You might even sense a renewal of something you already knew—that raising your self-awareness also raises your fitness. As a Marine in Iraq, Mark practiced that kind of awareness as a way of staying alive. So when it comes to the importance of gaining mental and physical prowess, this soft-spoken veteran has been there. But it’s his warmth, his internal bounce, and his interest in you that gives your sessions with Mark the feeling of having a trusted friend at your shoulder. He knows firsthand that the sharing of knowledge and the building of camaraderie are things we all need to stay fit and fully alive. This fits in perfectly with the community spirit you get at Sam’s Functional Fitness and Wellness Center where you’ll find Mark. If some part of you has ever felt a little shy about starting something new, Mark understands that combination of anticipation and airiness. He has fresh memories of suddenly finding himself in New Delhi, India, for grades 5, 6, and 7. His stepfather was in the State Department. He had friends outside the school who might remind you of the kids in “Slumdog Millionaire.” Then, of course, the Marines, the Iraqis, the turmoil of being caught up in something very complex. He’s been opened up by the world, but he brings it down home. He helps you see how to make progress by lending the same eye to your program that he has lent to one new situation after the next. And he loves it. You can count on Mark to help you get naturally into truly functional shape. At 135 pounds, Mark once hoisted up a fellow Marine weighing 245 pounds in a fireman’s carry and hustled off with him 100 yards through the sand. Talk about functional. And the obstacles he’s encountered on his journeys have given him an awareness of how to apply strength in lots of situations. He can show you how there’s more to it than grunt. It’s called grace. So, to get over some of your own obstacles, bring on Mark. He has used the Functional Fitness analysis and proper movement training to get past a knee injury of his own. He’s especially happy to share with you his own surprise about how much positive change a person can make in a short period of time from subtle movement changes. He’s not Superman. He just invitingly shows you the system that heals and prevents injuries. Come and see. If you want to work out to stay fit for life, consider taking a few hints from a guy who worked out to stay alive. Give Mark a call. Then come give him a bump on the shoulder.
